Surface Finishing Options

Karry Precision offers a range of surface finishing options to improve the appearance, corrosion resistance, wear performance, and service life of machined and assembled components. The appropriate finish is selected according to the material, application environment, dimensional requirements, and visual specifications.

  • Anodizing

Anodizing creates a protective oxide layer on aluminum components, improving corrosion resistance, surface hardness, and appearance. Clear, black, and custom colors are available.

  • Hard Anodizing

Hard anodizing produces a thicker and harder oxide layer than standard anodizing. It is suitable for components exposed to friction, wear, or demanding operating conditions.

  • Powder Coating

Powder coating provides a durable and uniform surface with good resistance to corrosion, impact, and outdoor exposure. Different colors, textures, and gloss levels can be specified.

  • Electroless Nickel Plating

Electroless nickel plating applies a uniform metallic coating without electrical current. It improves corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and dimensional consistency on complex geometries.

  • Passivation

Passivation removes contaminants from stainless steel surfaces and strengthens the natural protective oxide layer. It improves corrosion resistance without significantly changing part dimensions.

  • Bead Blasting

Bead blasting creates a clean, uniform matte texture while reducing visible machining marks. It is commonly used as a final cosmetic treatment or before anodizing and coating.

Assembly Tolerance Guide

Tolerance control is essential in assembly because it directly affects component fit, alignment, movement, fastening reliability, and final product performance. At Karry Precision, assembly tolerances are evaluated according to part function, material properties, joining method, dimensional stack-up, and inspection requirements.

Tolerance Design Recommendations

  • Apply tight tolerances only to function-critical interfaces
  • Use suitable clearance for sliding and removable components
  • Define interference values clearly for press-fit assemblies
  • Control datum relationships between mating components
  • Consider tolerance stack-up across multiple assembled parts
  • Allow for coating, plating, and adhesive thickness
Assembly Requirement Typical Tolerance Suitable Applications Cost Impact Assembly Considerations
General Component Alignment ±0.10–0.20 mm Covers, brackets, frames, and housings Low Suitable for non-critical mechanical assemblies
Precision Component Alignment ±0.05–0.10 mm Shafts, bearings, guides, and precision housings Medium Requires controlled datums and dimensional inspection
Hole-to-Hole Alignment ±0.05–0.15 mm Bolted assemblies, panels, and mounting brackets Medium Hole clearance should accommodate accumulated positional variation
Sliding Fit Clearance 0.02–0.10 mm Shafts, guides, bushings, and movable components Medium Clearance depends on material, lubrication, temperature, and required movement
Press-Fit Interference 0.01–0.05 mm Bearings, pins, bushings, and inserts Medium to High Interference must be selected according to diameter, material, and wall thickness
Gap and Flushness 0.10–0.30 mm Enclosures, covers, panels, and cosmetic assemblies Medium Visual requirements may require fixtures and additional inspection
Adhesive Bond-Line Thickness 0.05–0.20 mm Bonded housings, panels, and mixed-material assemblies Medium Controlled adhesive thickness helps maintain consistent bond strength
Threaded Assembly According to Drawing Screws, inserts, studs, and fasteners Low to Medium Thread engagement, tightening torque, and locking method should be specified

These values are general assembly references. Final requirements depend on component size, material combination, joining method, surface treatment, operating temperature, and functional requirements.
